Exhibition and Research
Horseshoe Crab: Against All Odds was a group exhibition in the Plymouth Center for the Arts, Plymouth, Massachusetts. My piece The Costs was one of 75 pieces selected I was able to travel to the exhibition thanks to a travel grant from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland (ACNI). I had the privilege to attend the closing lecture by Deborah Cramer author of The Narrow Edge A Tiny Bird, An Ancient Crab & An Epic Journey. The lecture outlined the relationship between Horseshoe crabs and Red Knots, and how the collection of the the crabs for bait and pharmaceutical use has caused a precipitate decline in numbers of both animals. Cramer described how the crabs covered the beaches in Massachusetts in abundance during spawning and now are a rare sight. I had the opportunity to chat with her (I bought her book which she signed!).
